Get Involved with Fundraising

All fundraising proceeds and direct donations go to supporting our mission. Funds are used to support critical research into causes and treatments, produce educational resources and conferences, and strengthen advocacy efforts for treatments and cures.

Quick Guide to Fundraising

  • Direct Donation via PayPal or Venmo, or send a check made out to “Melorheostosis Association” to 36 Sutton Place South 1C | New York, NY 10022
  • Employer Matching – before donating, check with your employer to see if they’ll match your donation. It’s a simple way to maximize your contribution.
  • Night out at a local restaurant! Many chain restaurants will work with you to host a “fundraising night” for a cause of your choice, where a portion of their sales for that night will go toward the cause. You can invite your friends and family and make it a fun event where everyone goes out to eat for your cause!
  • Think up your own FUNdraising ideas, like a pub crawl (Watch our How To Guide Here), birthday donation campaign on social media, or host a cocktail party or cookout.
  • Share these ways to donate via your social channels – help us reach your network and those who may be able to support the association by downloading the Giving Tuesday graphic, sharing your melo story, and posting the links to donate via PayPal
  • Contact us if you need help planning your fundraising event – we’re happy to supply graphics, ideas, and donation acknowledgements to participants.

Turning Hope into Action

Melorheostosis is an ultra-rare disease, affecting only a very small number of individuals worldwide. Like many rare conditions, it faces a unique challenge: limited awareness often leads to limited funding, which in turn slows research, treatment development, and patient support.

That’s why fundraising isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. It is one of the most powerful ways patients, families, and supporters can directly accelerate progress and build a stronger future for the entire melorheostosis community.

Ways to Get Involved in Fundraising

There are many meaningful and effective ways to raise funds for the Melorheostosis Association—no matter your experience level.

1. Start with Your Personal Network

Many successful fundraisers begin with friends, family, and colleagues who already care about you and your story.

  • Share why melorheostosis matters to you
  • Explain how donations will make a difference
  • Invite others to spread the word
This “inner circle” often becomes the foundation for broader support.

2. Launch an Online Fundraiser

Crowdfunding allows individuals to raise money by collecting small donations from a large number of people.

  • Create a fundraising page
  • Set a realistic, meaningful goal
  • Share updates and progress regularly
Online campaigns are especially powerful for rare diseases because they expand awareness far beyond local communities.

3. Host a Fundraising Event

Events are a classic and effective way to bring people together while raising funds and awareness. Examples include:

  • Walks or runs
  • Community gatherings
  • Event with friends (e.g. pub crawl, cocktail party, etc)
  • Benefit dinners or auctions
  • Awareness events tied to Rare Disease Day
Fundraising events not only generate donations but also build visibility and community engagement.

4. Use Social Media to Build Community

Stay social: connect, share, and build awareness online.

  • Share your story through posts or videos
  • Highlight milestones and impact
  • Encourage friends to repost and participate
Social fundraising transforms supporters into advocates—and advocacy drives momentum.
